Somatic Therapy
The body carries what the mind cannot always process.
Experiences that were overwhelming, unresolved, or repeated over time can become held in the nervous system — shaping how you respond, relate, and move through the world.
This can show up as anxiety, shutdown, reactivity, or a sense of being stuck in patterns that don’t shift, even with insight.
You may notice:
– chronic tension or tightness
– feeling overwhelmed or easily activated
– difficulty calming or settling
– patterns of shutdown or disconnection
– reactivity in relationships
– a sense that your body is not fully safe or at ease
These are not problems to fix.
They are patterns the nervous system learned in order to adapt.
Somatic therapy works directly with the nervous system.
With over 30 years of clinical experience, my work integrates Somatic Experiencing, Integral Somatic Psychology, and other body-based approaches to support the nervous system in processing and reorganizing these patterns.
Rather than focusing only on thoughts or insight, we bring attention to what is happening in the body—sensation, activation, and patterns of regulation. The work is paced, attuned, and intentional, allowing the system to process what was once overwhelming without retraumatization.
Over time, this supports the body in:
– releasing held tension and activation
– building capacity to stay present
– moving out of survival-based patterns
– experiencing greater regulation and flexibility
Healing happens through the body’s growing capacity to stay present.
Not by forcing change, but by allowing new experiences of safety and regulation to emerge over time. As this capacity increases, many people begin to feel more grounded, more connected, and more able to respond rather than react.
As capacity grows, there is often a gradual coming home to yourself—where presence, connection, and inner steadiness begin to replace survival patterns.
